In April - May 2018 I travelled to Japan, to spend time exploring three cities and partake in a residency at Paradise Air, Matsudo.
I developed a series of pieces that explore my role as tourist and non-tourist - aspects of otherness, both literal and perceptual.
works included video, installation, sound and interventions into public and private spaces
elements from the series have been shown at:
murmuration, Glenshee, Scotland
LevelOne gallery, Hamburg, Germany
Newcastle University, UK
Cafe Oto, London, UK
Iklectik Art Space, London, UK
Paradise Air, Matsudo, Japan
87 Gallery, online, UK

I am interested in how we can perform for a camera through borders of space both physically, culturally and architecturally. Within my work I examine the urge for efficiency in processes of regulation, normalisation and separation in our relationships with structures (built and social), other species, cultures and traditions.

the first in what became a series of video pieces connecting my interest in gesture with the design of and interaction with urban architecture. The interplay between the visual and the field recording soundtrack, recorded in a different location, acts as a device for our relationship to 'other'.
